ABOUT TNF

The Narrative Force and NYFA mandates are distinct yet complementary: while NYFA command the youth front, rallying their energy for Atiku, The Narrative Force prosecutes the psychological war online, storming Tinubu’s digital citadel until the victory drum beats for Atiku.

HE PARADOX OF MODERN POLITICS: A CRITIQUE OF INTEGRITY IN LEADERSHIP WITHIN THE PDP. Aare Amerijoye DOT.B. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), once a beacon of hope and progressive governance in Nigeria, now finds itself grappling with profound leadership problems and internal crises that echo the disconcerting trends observed in modern politics. Politicians of yesteryear were keenly aware of their integrity, forthrightness, and the legacy they would leave behind. They prioritised ethical governance, understanding that their decisions would be scrutinised by history. In stark contrast, today's political actors within the PDP often appear preoccupied with monetary gain and power, demonstrating a troubling indifference to moral considerations. This transformation can be likened to a tragic comedy where the stakes are high, but the players are misguided. Once revered for their vision and ethical standards, many contemporary PDP leaders have descended into a realm of opportunism, risking the party's legacy for immediate personal gain. This oxymoronic dynamic reveals a disconnect between the ideals of leadership and the self-serving behaviour that has become commonplace. As philosopher Hannah Arendt noted, “The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.” This observation is particularly relevant to the PDP's current state, where leaders appear to be ensnared in a system that rewards self-interest over principled governance. The internal divisions and power struggles within the party exemplify this moral ambiguity. Factionalism and infighting, driven by personal ambition rather than collective goals, have led to a lack of coherent strategy and vision for the party's future. Friedrich Nietzsche’s warning that “He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster” serves as a pertinent reminder. In their quest to reclaim power and address internal challenges, some PDP leaders risk compromising their integrity, becoming indistinguishable from the very adversaries they aim to oppose. The obsession with political positioning often overshadows the party’s original mission of promoting democratic values and social justice. The dissonance between past and present within the PDP is striking. Politicians of earlier generations understood that their actions would resonate through time, shaping the party’s narrative. In contrast, many current leaders seem increasingly disengaged from the ethical implications of their choices, fixated instead on short-term gains and power struggles. This has fostered an environment where accountability is lacking, and internal discord is rampant. As the PDP confronts her leadership challenges and internal crises, it is crucial to advocate for a return to the values of integrity and ethical leadership. Only by prioritising collective goals over individual ambitions can the party hope to regain its stature and inspire future generations to champion the greater good. Rebuilding trust and unity within the PDP will require a commitment to principled governance, ensuring that the party can rise above the tumult of modern politics and once again serve as a formidable force for progress in Nigeria.
